Billy Browning
Achievements: Billy was a two sport player while at Evarts. He received the award for best pitcher in baseball his Jr. & Sr. years. Billy's Jr. year he was a starting forward on the basketball team. He lost three or more weeks of playing due to an ankle injury while playing against Harlan his Jr. year. In a Christmas tournament at Evarts his Jr. year, Evarts and Harlan were playing for the championship and the score was tied at 76. Evarts in-bounded the ball to Billy with 5 seconds to go, Billy made about a 15 ft. jump shot and Evarts won 78-76. Before his ankle injury, Harlan sports writers printed that Billy was one of the most improved basketball players in the 13th Region. He still received the award his Jr. year as leading re bounder at EHS. His Sr. year in basketball, Billy was a starting center. He had several 30+ point games and received the following awards: Leading Scorer, Leading Re bounder, and Best Free-Throw Shooter (85%). Tragically, Billy passed away on 8-25-1996 and his jersey was retired at the 1997 graduation. Billy's family started a Billy Brownsing Memorial Scholarship. The first was given on May 1997.
Most Memorable Moment: "If Billy were here, he would say beating Harlan in the District tournament in 1992. Harlan was ranked 5th in the mountains. Evarts beat them in double overtime and Billy played from start to finish."

Billy Musick
Achievements:1989 - 8 wins 3 losses (Most wins by a football team at Evarts in 17 years), Kentucky Coach of the Year (Honorable Mention) 1990 - 13 wins 1 loss (School record for wins in a season by a team), Kentucky Coach of the Year, District 2 Region 4 Coach of the Year, Harlan Daily Enterprise Coach of the Year, coached states leading rusher (Scott Russell), 2nd leading rushing team in the state (all classes), 1st District and Regional titles in football in school's history, Southeastern Kentucky Conference Champions, 1991 - Kentucky Coach of the Year (Honorable Mention), Harlan Daily Enterprise Coach of the Year, Back to back playoff appearances (1st time in school's history), Evarts player named Mr. Football (Scott Russell).
Most Memorable Moment: "My greatest moment in EHS sports would have to be winning the Regional Championship in 1990 with an 8-7 win over Pikeville at Pikeville. Great Game, Great Fans, Great Players, Great Win!" |

Achievements:1989 - All District, Best Offensive Back, Wildcat Endurance Award, 1990 - District Player of the Year, first player to rush for 2,196 yards during one season, All State, SEKC Player of the Year, Harlan Co. Player of the Year, Kentucky Network Campbell Soup Class 'A' Player of the Year, Roy Kid-Nestle Quik Class 'A' Player of the Year, 1991 - All State, SEKC Player of the Year, Voted Kentucky's 'Mr. Football'. His jersey was retired in 1992. Scott set the state record for rushing yards at 7,090 and was the only player to lead the state in rushing three years in a row. After high school, Scott went on to a very successful football career at Union College and won a number awards including: 1995 - Most Valuable Player, Mid-South All Conference First Team, Honorable Mention All American, 1996 - Male Athlete of the Year, Union's All Time Leading Rusher, 1997 - Selected to play in the National All Stars College Football Classic held at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky, NAIA National Player of the Week twice.
Most Memorable Moment: "Breaking the State rushing record and having my teammates lift me up on their shoulders and being elected Kentucky Mr. Football." |

Arthur 'Buddy' West
Achievements: Arthur was one of the better quarterbacks to play at Evarts and was Team Captain.
Most Memorable Moment: "Last game played against Whitesburg, he completed 20 out of 25 passes."
